Why I chose to make this costume:
This was my first time attending a convention at the end of the year. With the convention being so close to the holidays, I felt like a holiday themed costume would be a big hit. I chose Mistletoe LeBlanc because it's one of my favorite holiday skins from League of Legends.
How I made this costume:
I followed the design from her splash art as closely as I could adding in different fabric and trims for texture. I chose velvet for her cloak because I felt like it would be something she would wear, and lined it with fleece for warmth in the cold months. I chose satin for the skirt and suede-cloth for the corset-top. All the major pieces of the costume are made from scratch. I embellished the corset top with ribbon that I hand pleated, as well as some gold braid trim (instead of the plain ribbon of the reference) for texture. The skirt is a simple circle skirt and I used satin blanket binding for the trim, and to finish the hem. The boots and gloves were purchased but I added the fur trim myself. I decided to make the cloak shorter than the reference for ease of walking around conventions.
The staff is made from varying materials including: wood, pink insulation foam, expanding spray foam, foam core board, worbla, and wood filler.
Thoughts on this costume:
This costume was incredibly fun to wear. I spent several minutes each morning just twirling around my hotel room in the skirt. I was also incredibly comfortable, despite being in heels for 2 days straight. I'm especially glad I chose the line the cloak with fleece because it came in handy during lengthy stints outside for photo shoots.
Overall the costume was extremely well received at NewCon and I will likely wear it again if I have the opportunity for another convention in such close relation to a holiday. I hope to get some shots of this out in the snow soon, too.
