"Let's wreak havoc." Emeraldas! To be perfectly honest, she's still mostly an enigma to me. There are so. Many. Freaking. Harlock series. I can't even keep up. But her character, what I saw of her from my sampling across the Harlock franchise, really drew me in. She didn't even have to open her mouth to prove to me she was a strong, badass type without losing touch with her womanly side. For a stock stereotype character of the 1970's, that takes skill, man. Running around in the Baltimore Inner Harbor as SPACE PIRATES in a normal ship harbor was pretty much the best. The end.
This is my first ever HAND-DRAFTED costume ever! I had some leftover fleece from a Fai-related commission and had an image in my head of how the Harlock cloak might work, and just started cutting. I pinned together, made some very minor alterations, and bam, I had my pattern. I was shocked it worked out that well. The cape is two pieces, made of black sport knit and red anti-static lining, edged in yellow quilt binding. My tunic is made of the same sport knit, based on a dress pattern I've used for Nia, Rosette, AND Haruko in the past. Trim is yellow bias tape and white acrylic paint for the skull and crossbones. Leggings were care of Sockdreams, and belts were cut by me (and Marina in the hotel room xD) and fastened on by velcro with handmade belt buckles made of wood and clay, spraypainted gold. My Gravity Saber is official merchandise, and way too much fun to play with. I also crafted my Harlock's outfit. Wig, patch, and boots supplied by Joey, all else painted and sewn by me. His Crimson Dragoon was painted by a friend, as well.
