FLCL ACParadise Contest First Place Winner!
FLCL is something I probably should have seen aaaages ago and didn't. All I know, is the hype surrounding it had me excited, and when I finally sat down to watch it, I understood exactly what they meant. This show makes you feel as if IT knows something YOU don't--and that's unnerving. It's classic, kitschy, moving, hilarious, and completely mind-screwingly random all at once. I adore Haruko, and think that I probably have the easiest time getting into character wearing this outfit.
Relatively straightforward costume this time around...I began with a fitted dress pattern (the same I used for Princess Nia) and altered it as I went. The patterns for the sleeves and collar were done by scratch, aka, me flying by the seat of my pants. The black stripe adornments are black elastic top-stitched on, and I used a black sport parka zipper. The vest itself is made of an awesome, polyester knit that has a sporty, durable tooth to it and sews like a dream. The shackle cuff Haruko wears on her left wrist was made by me, out of craft foam and nailhead brads.
The rest of the costume was ready-made--gloves, wig, and goggles via eBay, pants courtesy American Apparel, shoes courtesy Hot Topic, and I already owned the thermal shirt and scarf.
The Rickenbacker bass is not by me, I only wish I were that talented. It's been passed down to me by the lovely Colleen aka FoxyKitsune, who does an absolutely fantastic Haruko! Thank you SO much for the prop, dear.
