This costume was actually largely a construction exercise. I had never done a proper sailor fuku/pleated skirt and wanted to sit down and do a legitimately good job on it. All black fabric is twill, the white sailor top and cuffs are bottomweight, and all stripes are topstitched grosgrain ribbon. I started by topstitching all 9' of the skirt fabric with the two stripes of white, serging the hem, and tacking it up seamlessly before pleating and inserting an invisible zipper. I faced the sailor top after topstitching the stripes and attached it to the neckline with black facing that tucks inside. I inserted the zipper in the back and hid it up under the neckline by leaving the facing attached to only the collar (left free from the rest of the shirt) at the back of the neck. The logos on the breast and sleeves are dark iron-on transfers I designed in Photoshop.
