Nia is absolutely adorable. I knew I had to cosplay her after finishing what has to be my FAVORITE anime of all time. Also, BWAH. This is my first entirely handmade costume, and may I add, my first sewing project ever.
I quickly realized that to pull this off with as much accuracy as possible, I was going to have to cast my own jewels for all Nia's various cuffs and gold jewelry. So...I had fun experimenting with resin epoxy and ultimately am very satisfied with how all the decorations turned out! The dress is a longish shirt sewn from a modified jumper pattern, with the appropriate bits hemmed up to get Nia's weird cutouts that show off the pleated circle skirt underneath. I owe my soul to Han-Pan (her account is here: http://www.cosplay.com/member/114322/ ) for talking me through this entire process and occasionally demonstrating...I sewed the thing myself, but would've had NO clue where to even begin without her amazing patience and guidance. Thank you so much, sweetie!! Now I'm motivated to get even better at sewing. The wig was courtesy of Ebay, but everything else on the costume was custom cut, colored, spray-painted, and created by me using craft foam, the jewels I cast from scratch, and clay.
