This was such a fun project!
We had discussed making this trio for quite a while before it actually happened, because it never was something we expected to do for real (I think!). Then the perfect occasion just came around - Pop Expo was a small, laid-back comiccon kind of event. We thought the costumes were simple enough to make in two or three weeks only. I remember having a brilliant time with friends that weekend!
The casting was pretty easy to decide on. Yay! The blue blouse was thrifted. Seeing as I already owned the perfect 10th Doctor shoes (beige high length Chuck Taylors I had bought more than 5 years ago at that point!), all I had to worry about was making the brown suit. The fabric was harder to find than I thought it would be - either the lines were too thick, too far apart or too close, or too far from the right colour. In the end I couldn't find cornflower blue pinstripe, but the shade of the brown and the spacing of the lines were pretty good, so the lined ended up being a light beige instead. The skirt has huge pockets too! Yay! :D I made the tie myself out of a purple matte satin clipping from my leftovers. I wanted to make this one specifically, called "the festive tie" by my friend Vilya and I, and had to get a ton of screenshots from the show to find the proper one (because all Tennant ever wears in that show are purple/wine/blue ties with patterns, flowers, swirls, etc.)! I painted the blue gradient swirly patterns on it with acrylics mixed with fabric medium. Finally, I went with my own hair instead of a wig, both because it was going to be a laid-back convention, after all, and because I could fulfill 10th's wish to be ginger!!
