I absolutely was not going to cosplay as Maribelle. It would have been too predictable. I've already made things like this. There were going to be other characters that I'd rather cosplay as. I was going to break my mold!
So here I am, cosplaying as Maribelle.
I made the pants and mantle out of suede, and for those of you looking for a great selection of suede colors I suggest you check out Hancock Fabrics, trust me. The blouse and the ruffle are peachskin, I've made at least three variants of this kind of blouse at this point so that was cakewalk. The little corset has lots of fun details. Spring steel boning, vinyl mock-belts, two-toned heart gems cast from resin, and metallic piping at the bottom. The hip armor is just painted vinyl slapped onto a little velcro belt.
The wig is the reason this costume was finished half a year later than it was supposed to be due to the obscene amounts of spray glue I needed (three cans when it was said and done) but couldn't use outside in the winter. Each curl is cut and carved from chair cushion foam and pierced with a thick wire spine so I could bend them to contour instead of stick straight out. I used about six or seven packs of hair wefts to cover each curl, starting with cheap wefts to cover them completely and nice wefts to give them a presentable appearance to match the base wig.
I pulled the base wig into little ponytails and used the ends of the wire in each curl to secure them into the netting. After that, I proceeded to wind the base wig's hair into each curl, giving it as seamless an appearance as possible.
The little bows are glued onto a clear headband which goes on my head after the wig, which helps a little bit with keeping it in place. It's really back heavy, but lace tape helped keep it where it needed to be.
