My third costume made - Final Fantasy X is one of my favorite final fantasy games, and I always enjoyed Yuna's design and her kindness and resilience. Also, years ago Teeny of Totally Toasty made a great tutorial which helped me get started. She plans to make a new one sometimes soon though. I am very happy to have pulled through with this costume! Here is a writeup of the costume:
Wig - Bought from aliexpress
Top - The white top was made using an online pattern, which sort of resembles an omega symbol. It may look like a rectangular strip of fabric just creased together, but the weird omega symbol definitely helped achieve the look neatly and securely. Huge thanks to Teeny of TotallyToasty for pointing out the shape! Fortunately I traced it out on dotted scrap fabric before the final product, which was made of two layers of white cotton fabric sewn together. I ran into the problem of the top not tucking in neatly and tumbling out of the obi at times, so I fixed that by adding an elastic band at the very bottom so it was hidden by the obi. Made the top so much more secure and better-looking when pulled taut.
Bikini Top - Modified a black bra and used elastic bands. First, the straps were detached from the back of the bra, trimmed a bit (don't trim too much because the adjustable straps come in handy), and sewed together. I cut out the back band. replaced it with elastic band. Then another vertical elastic band was sewn on to connect the top strap to the bottom strap band to create the upside down T shape.
Obi - Yellow and pink cotton rectangles were sewn together, which gave the obi a good stiffness. The vine designs were painted on with acrylic paint, and the other obi details were cut out of felt and glued on. The obi bow was cut out of yellow fleece fabric, supported with construction paper to stick up. The obi-jime was composed of two parts: Part one was fiber cord sewn onto the obi. The second part was a separate string sewn/safety pinned onto the rope. The obi-jime beads were made from painted model magic, and the long bead was made of 4 layers of computer paper rolled together, secured with tape, and painted. Tassels were made from lanyard string. The hibiscus is made of layered craft foam painted.
Skirt - Blue cotton fabric was pleated (followed various pleated skirt tutorials on google) and acrylic painted. There are two box pleats in the back, and knife pleated. The knife pleats do not all go in the same direction, so to create the change in direction in the front, an inverse box pleat was used.
Sleeves - White cotton fabric was cut into a T shape, folded over, and sewn. White fleece tabs were hand stitched onto the sleeve, along with purple fabric to create the drooping ribbon look. Then, petal pink RIT dye was used to dye the sleeves with a spray bottle.
Jewelry - The earring was made of model magic that I hand painted (warning, do not use sculpey - it is too heavy for the earring to stay on). The necklace was bought on aliexpress. The rings and bracelets were made out of swarovski crystal beads, pearl beads, and cylindrical thin beads strung together.
Staff - The staff was commissioned from the incredible Clayton Ludwig of Clayton D. Ludwig and Associates. He milled the staff head, painted it, and attached it to a wooden pole. I then did the paint job of the shaft, installed the eye hook and bell at the bottom.
