I used the Burda 7977 pattern as a base. It looked like the best pre-drafted base for a kirtle that I could find. I took the pattern in at the waist and bust area since it was meant to be a bit more loose fitting than Merida's dress. I also did a lot of work with the sleeves to match Merida's style. I did not make the dress and chemise as two separate pieces. I ended up following a lot of what Angela Clayton (doxiequeen1.wordpress.com) did for her Merida costume in that aspect. The dress is made out of a very dark teal brushed wool fabric. It seemed to match the texture of her dress best, and bonus points for being of the time period! I used a combination of cream muslin and chiffon for the "chemise" parts of her dress. I did line the whole costume as well, which helps dull down the itchiness of the wool!

My cape is made from grey fleece, and I followed the tutorial by LifeAnnStyle.com

For the hair, I used two Merry wigs in pumpkin from Arda. I took wefts from one wig, and sewed them into the other for extra fullness. Then I teased, recurled, and styled my new extra thick wig to my liking.

My props were purchased from two different companies. The leather props are from Potomac Leather Company, a staple of the Maryland Renaissance Festival. The bow was made by Ivory Forge. I made the arrow from a dowel, feathers, thread, and glue.
