My third Hikaru costume, and completely made from scratch!
So, I couldn't find this black and red checkered pattern anywhere. Gingham, sure, or in white, sure -- but never like this. I made my own design and got it printed via spoonflower. The dress has princess seams, and it's made me fallen in love with them. Now I want all my dresses to have princess seams. I usually wear a binder for my Hikaru costumes because uhhhh my bust size is certainly not a 14-year-old's, but this dress is so flattering on my body that I forego the binder. I used a knit cardigan pattern for the top layer and drafted my own sailor collar to attach. It hooks in the front with snaps and a decorative black button. I found the shoes on ebay or amazon or something. Oh, and I used a regular old hat pattern for the hat! The cardigan and hat are made from the same red knit fabric, and the dress is silky faille from Spoonflower. It's very smooth and very soft, and I chose it based on how I liked the colors showing up the best.
