This costume caused me all sorts of stress. I kind of want to retire it because I don't think it flatters my body type (turns out my body type is a lot closer to Mami's), but I also want photos, but I also want group photos, and due to unfortunate circumstances, I've fizzled out from the group. Sooo, Sayaka may not get some good photos. :(
Regardless, I got the wig from Match Wigs. I love its color, though it doesn't look as great in indoor light and away from the sun. I based the white top on a corset pattern, and I made the skirt from scratch without a pattern, and it's my favorite part of the costume. I tried making my own socks with some dancewear fabric, but it just didn't want to stay, and I've since replaced it with white socks and blue belts. I've also replaced the boots I attempted to make bootcovers for with some actual boots that I painted. The collar is made out of craft foam, and I never quite got the shape of the cape right. The breast plate is a labor of love that was inspired by a youtube tutorial I saw. Following its advice, I started with a strapless bra, attached craft foam to it, and hardened it all with resin I painted on. Then I attempted to smooth things out with paperclay and sandpaper, but it left some uneven parts. I used several coats of metallic blue paint and a coat of clear gloss. Sayaka is my favorite character from Madoka, but I'm thinking maybe I should have cosplayed Kyouko or Mami.
