For my Super Sailor Moon costume I made a few design interpretations, such as making the yellow stripes on the skirt and cape gold color. I used real feathers for the hair barrette things and the wand wings. And the back bow tails were knee-length instead of ankle-length.
The heart broaches and odango gems I made out of clear plastic casting resin(first time using the stuff so there was a lot of experimentation). For the base suit and skirt I used a modified ice-skater outfit pattern that I borrowed from Carladawn. She also helped me make the cape and front bow so that they would match hers (she made Usagi/Serena in regular cloths).
The back bow and shoulder parts were made with a sheer material with wire hand stitched around the edges to help them hold shape.
Gloves were white prom gloves that I just added the red elbow rings to. So the gloves, the heels I wore under the boot covers, wig, and the wand base were the only things I used for this costume that weren't made from scratch by me.
It was my first time making boot covers. I used a 4-way stretch cloth and the sandwich-your-leg-in-cloth-then-pin technique. I think they came out pretty good except that the bottom of my shoes didn't have any traction with the fabric on the bottom. Lesson learned. XD
For the Kaleidomoon Scope I actually found a really great base wand at the dollar store. It lit up and everything! I just modified it by adding the crystals, handgaurds, crown, wings, and other design elements.
This costume was a lot more work than I anticipated for. So I ended up having to pull a few all-nighters to get it done in time for the masquerade. But I really think it turned out great, and I can't wait to wear it again.
