Made for the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2014 in Las Vegas! I won Judge's Choice award and got a signed copy of the FFXIV soundtrack!
This costume takes the cake for strangest patterns I've ever had to figure out! lol
I'm so happy with how the weird jacket thing came out! I had to hand stitch many parts to get all those design lines in, plus went in with a really thick needle and hand stitched yarn over the surface for added detail. The pants I am not pleased with. They are the one thing I would redo if I wasn't too lazy.
The gems, earring, and front clasps were sculpted with Sculpy clay, then molded and cast in resin. For the chest aetheric reading device I just built up the shapes with craft foam on cardboard. The ears I borrowed from Misti, but I believe she purchased them from Yaya Han's shop.
This was my most arduous wig to date! Had to cut off then re-sew back a good chunk of the wefts to face the right direction for the ponytail style. I stubbed the ponytail with high-temp hot glue plus sewed wire through it to make sure it would have enough sticking out shape in profile. For the big top ahoge I sandwiched wire between two strips of clear electrical tape and trimmed and bent it to the overall shape I wanted. Then glued wig fibers onto that and sewed it into the wig. I made extra wefts from the hair trimmings after cutting the front bangs and then sewed those right back in for extra thickness. Then it was just a matter of cutting and hair spraying it into style.
I made my own shoes! Carved out the wedge shape from an old platform flip-flop and glued it to another shaved down platform flip-flop then constructed the top shoe shape out of vinyl. The pants are attached right to the shoe just like the character design! I still need to add the crazy rocket shapes on the heels of the shoes, I ran out of time for the fan fest.
