This was a bit of a challenge because of the EXTREME lack of references. Aside from being shown for a split second in the first episode, the only other reference that exists [to my knowledge] is this figure: http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m7wlrn2oCp1r02ysyo1_250.jpg Aside from being under an inch tall, this figure is SUPER RARE - I do happen to own it, however.
I strive for accuracy as much as I can, but obviously that was a challenge here. The sunflowers in the screencap looked more realistic, but my painting skills are barely above an elementary school level, so I went for the more graphic, simplistic design featured on the figure. The base flowers were made with twill and painted with acrylic. They were zig-zag stitched on because I hadn't figured out how to do a satin/applique stitch with my machine yet. I found some fusible webbing at Joann's that I thought would assist with the applique, but it was awful and tore too easily. I patterned the yukata and obi myself, and made them... from broadcloth... sigh. But I was able to get the exact colors I wanted, which was fabulous. I doubled up on the blue broadcloth since it was so thin, and used heavy interfacing in the bow of the obi because I finally figured out what interfacing was.
in 2014 I cut this up to make Lucina's yukata. I would love to revisit this someday though.
