After finally playing the first Danganronpa, I resisted cosplaying Junko because she's been done to death, but I needed a decently cheap and relaxing costume after Katsucon, and considering my next con was being held at my alma mater, I thought it would be pretty hilarious to show up on campus as Junko. So, it happened. I took this as a challenge to find ways to play with textures, different fabrics, and just generally find a way to set mine apart. All fabrics came from my stash.
SKIRT: Made using leftover Love Live fabric. I'm SO glad I had enough because poly poplin is my favorite material for pleated skirts, and the simple black-on-red design looks a lot nicer than any red plaid I've ever found (no clashing yellows or greens or what have you). The design forced me to make the pleats larger than I like to make them.
TIE: Completely hand-made. I used this pattern: http://www.sweetshopsewing.com/2014/04/16/free-mens-neck-tie-pattern-and-tutorial/ I modified it only to make it longer so that the tie would hang past the skirt hem like it's supposed to. The fabrics are the wrong side of casa satin (black) and white textured satin (white) for a bit of a texture contrast. It's lined in white poly poplin, but I added a bit of leftover plaid at the bottom so at first glance it looks like it's lined in plaid. The knot is faked so that it sits exactly where it needs to (right under the boobies) and doesn't look like shit. The red bow is sewn straight on and is made from vinyl - not something I usually like to use but TEXTURE. I like how it looks sort of bubbly like an IRL Hello Kitty bow. The tie is tacked onto the cardigan so it doesn't move around (because ties don't just perfectly curl themselves around your bosom, you know).
CARDIGAN: Bought a cheap cardigan and thrifted the shirt. Buttons are as-is from Joann's - they had some that were a brighter red but I opted for the slightly darker color so that everything wasn't so matchy. I adjusted the neckline and stitched the front closed. All the shirt details (collar, hem, cuffs) are sewn into the cardigan - this way they stayed in place and I was able to do away with a bulky second layer. I cut those parts off of a thrifted shirt (with pretty stitched details that are difficult to see, of course), serged the edges, and stitched them on. Pins were purchased here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/150183183/dangan-ronpa-junko-enoshima-cosplay-pins?ref=shop_home_active_2
BRA: Bought for cheap, original lace removed. I found this awesome velvety trim that was lace-shaped (????I don't know how to describe it lmao. if you see me at a con you can see/feel it for yourself) and used that instead of tacky-looking lingerie lace. The red details on the lace are ambiguous-looking in all the art so I was like... you know what those should be? RHINESTONES. PREFERABLY HEART SHAPED. So that's what I did. Glued those to the lace with Tacky glue, then hand-stitched the trim on. I also used the trim as the choker, with a snap sewn on.
BOOTS: Yeah, they're not super accurate, but I already owned them and rarely get to use them, so... DEAL.
