Our second masquerade entry. :3
Won Best in Novice Performance with Notice of Craftsmanship!
I absolutely love Ludwig Kakumei! And I definitely want to cosplay from the series again!
Note: I made all three costumes, with the exception of Ludwig's shirt, so I'm grouping them together.
Construction Notes:
I whipped these up in about two weeks, by the by. Both Ludwig and Wilhelm were kinda happy accidents.
We bought the masks at a local store as part of a last minute idea.
-Ludwig
The coat was made with black gabardine and leopard satin following McCall pattern 5550. The pants and vest were made of pin stripe suiting using Simplicity 2860 and McCall 4321.The cravat and hair bow were made out of rectangular pieces of green satin and lace. I made the wig entirely from scratch . . . IE: machine sewing loose fibers onto lace strip and then tediously hand sewing the wefts onto an elastic mesh cap. First homemade wig out of three. Never agAIn. The hat, gloves, and boots were purchased.
-Wilhelm
This outfit was also made using McCall 5550 and Simplicity 2860. The official outfit is green. I was on a restricted budget at the time, so I went with the materials of an unfinished Sweden cosplay. IE: Navy gabardine, large black buttons, and black polyester lining. Found the lace somewhere in my stash. Cravat is just a sewn rectangular piece of gabardine. Boots and gloves were purchased.
-Red
She was a blast to make! Well, maybe not the gloves, but Ludwig (StitchWitch) hand sewed those, not me. :)
The cape is made from serged red gabardine cut in the likeness of a plastic grocery bag. (I was trying to be cheap, okay?) The rest of her outfit was wonderfully freehanded into existence with red jet set knit, black liquid stretch lame`, metal loops, and a pair of Goodwill Platform boots. Let's not forget the shoulder pads I used for the chest padding. First time making boot covers, and I have loved making them ever since. I'd like to remake her, but with stretch vinyl.
Performance Notes:
I had an idea for the skit, but my choreography skills were really malnourished at the time. But working with a band geek and a drama nerd make everything super easy! We did stay up til two in the morning the night before the masquerade finalizing choreography and rehearsing, though . . . Also, this was the first and last time I've used stage props in a competition. They're optional, but can help you stand out from your fellow competitors.
