I don't have a lot of experience making props, in fact I've only ever made one prop before this costume, but it's an area that I want to gain more skill in, so when I saw this costume I thought "Why not? Go big, or go home". I'm not really 100% happy with all aspects of this costume, but I feel like I learned a lot working on all of the different parts of it. I'm also happy to have been able to take some truly amazing pictures with one of my best friends as Black Rock Shooter (whose costume and prop I also made).
Jacket - Pattern was macgyvered by me to be as similar to my friends Black Rock Shooter jacket as possible. It's made from white and black pleather and lined in white wet look spandex. It has 3 functional zippers overall, 2 in each sleeve and 1 for the main closure. All of the black details were glued down and then top stitched.
Bikini - I used a pattern for the bikini top to make sure that it fit well. It's made from white wet look spandex that was dulled (by washing it several times with dark colored laundry) and reversed to prevent it from being too shiny.
Shorts - Pattern was macgyvered by me to be as similar to my friends Black Rock Shooter shorts as possible. They're made from white and black pleather and close on the left side with a zipper and a snap. Like the jacket, all of the black details were glued down and then top stitched.
Leg details - The leggings are simply tubes of white wet look spandex. The ankle cuffs are connected to the leggings and have batting in them to give them some dimension, and they snap closed in the back. The knee details are 2 separate pieces; there's the rectangular knee "pads" which are made from white and black pleather, white wet look spandex, and batting, each of them closes with a zipper in the front. Then there's knee "wings", which are attached to the knee "pads" and are made from white and black pleather and are filled with wire form to allow them to be shaped.
Wig - It's a 30" clip-in pigtail and wig set in white from Epic Cosplay. The back was trimmed up and the bangs were trimmed in the front.
Eye flame - The eye flame is made from pink transparent folders from staples. The flame shapes were cut out and scotch tapped together (because glue wouldn't hold for some reason). I used medical tape to stick the flame to my eye.
Scythe - This scythe is the second prop I have ever made and I'm proud of parts of it and disappointed in other parts of it. It's got a cardboard base that has rope lights and pink plastic sheeting attached to it. 2 layers of craft foam are layered over the coardboard and plastic. Once the basic shape was done, the entire thing was gessoed and then stabilized using fiberglass cloth and resin. Once the resin hardened the scythe was gessoed again and then spray painted white. The pole for the scythe is made from PVC piping reinforced with an aluminum pipe. All of the white details were made from thick craft foam that was sprayed painted white.
