I love Lady Rainicorn as a character and I love Korean culture, so this costume was something I've been thinking about making for quite some time and finally I got around to it. I used the Folkwear hanbok pattern as a basis for the costume and added in rainbow details where they seemed appropriate.
Jeogori - The jacket portion of the hanbok is made from two-tone taffeta in a number of different colors. The white taffeta was a bit too translucent, even when it was doubled up, so there's a layer of white cotton sandwiched between the layers of white taffeta. The sleeves are strips of colored taffeta arranged in the same order as Lady's stripes and are lined in white taffeta.
Chima - The dress portion of the hanbok is made from polyester silk duponi in a hot pink color. There's an additional rainbow at the bottom of the chima which is made out of strips of taffeta and backed by white taffeta. There is also a "petticoat" in the same length as the chima made from bridal crinoline.
Wig - The wig was originally a long curly wig. It was staightened with a hair straightener and coated with Motion's Oil Sheen to prevent it from tangling. The horn is made from aluminum foil covered in sculpy and painted with white pearlescent paint. The horn is supported by (and attached to the wig with) several lengths of 12 gauge wire.
