I really, really, really, really love this show! Rebecca Sugar & her team really pay homage to anime/manga without it coming off as gimmicky like some other cartoons of the 2000s-2010s and it's something that I really like about it. I love ALL of the characters so much that choosing who to cosplay was really difficult, as was choosing who to cosplay FIRST. I picked Rose because I'm the "mom" of my friend group even though I was the youngest for a really long time, and because I just love her character (so mysterious!), pink, ladies with swords, and roses, haha.
So! Onto construction notes! DEAR GOD I AM NEVER TRYING TO MAKE A COSTUME THE DAY BEFORE THE CON EVER AGAIN. I hate hate hate being up against the wire but I managed to pull this off on the Thursday before AB. The bodice is from a Simplicity "Black Swan" Halloween costume pattern (same as Tutu!) and I chose to make it with a corset back since we never actually see the back of the bodice in the show and because my measurements tend to fluctuate throughout the year and this ensures that it'll fit no matter what. I lined it with muslin and some rose-patterned cotton I had lying around (I am SUCH a dweeb) and boned it with plastic featherweight boning to give it some structure.
I was a blithering idiot and did the applique for the star completely wrong by cutting the star out of the satin and then stitching a square of nude fabric under it when what I should have done was cut the star out of the nude fabric & basted it to the top of the bodice, satin stitched, and trimmed away the excess. This is why friends don't let friends make costumes the day before the con.
The skirts are all just circle skirts that I baste stitched together at the top before attaching them to an elastic waistband. The top tier has rose patterned lace on the hem because I wanted an excuse to use more of it. The wig is an Arda-Wigs Claudia in (you guessed it) Rose Pink! I definitely want to bling this out for future cons, add more wefts to the wig to get dat crazy Rose mane, and make her sword and shield, but for now, I'm really happy with how this turned out for a completely last-minute cosplay!
