What a project! A tradition of mine is visiting my Socal friends for New Years! Around October 2015 I encourgaed the idea of doing costumes while I visited, and we settled on Snowy Mountain card set! At the time it was a duo project, but were able rope in Kaeatri, and Maryssa <3 I don't think we could've done a better job in such a short time!
My design is fairly different than my partners designs, I have a fitted bodice, and capelet design! It took me a couple times to figure out the pleating I wanted for my skirt, and once the fur is added on it gives this really fabulous hem! The capelet was a fun task because it has a lot of small details. I sourced floral cabochons for the closures, and did the intricate bias tape pattern along the collar. Vintage red braided fringe trip was hand-sewn on top of the capelet for the finishing touch!
The cincher was extremely tricky! On a previous costume I had done a trick that I thought could be used here, and thankfully it worked! Since the suede isn't 100% synthetic I couldn't just use a heat knife or else this task would've been 10x easier!! The cincher laces up the front, and has a decorative braided trim that criss-crosses over the cincher!
Overall this is one of the first costumes where when it was time to put the whole thing on I started tearing up. I felt proud of the team-work we had done and felt really good in it! Kaeatri took care of the embroidery designs along the hem, Suzanne did the earmuffs <3
