This cosplay was something I went into making with the expectation that with my years of experience, it wouldn't be especially difficult. Holy hell was I WRONG. These sailor scout uniforms were one of the most difficult things I've ever created - and I had to make eight of them.
I ended up not being able to finish the gloves/glove rolls and necklaces (I was sewing sleeves on the upper bodices in the hotel room!) and I had to delegate the chest and tiara gems to a friend. Hopefully for the next event we wear these outfits to they'll actually be complete.
Construction:
The leotards are made in two parts - a single piece like a very low cut bathing suit, with an upper part that has the sleeves and the curved parts under the bustline. Both are made from a matte milliskin spandex with a thinner matte milliskin spandex lining. The sleeves are two layers of folded fleece oblongs sandwiched between folded matte milliskin, with a folded oblong of organza as the bottom layer to get the sheer shoulder armor under the two fat rolls.
The hip rolls are also matte milliskin over fleece, and are actually attached to the skirt and not to the leotards.
The skirt, collars, and bows are cotton stretch sateen. The white trim on the collar is a satin stitch.
The tiaras are mirror vinyl, and the gems are resin.
