The BIGGEST project I've ever done!
THE DRESS
So I wanted to do this dress and decided if I was gonna do it, I was gonna do it 100% from scratch and make everything!
I bought my materials from "The Fancy Silk Store" in Birmingham, The skirt fabric is just shiny enough to give it that sheen without looking tacky.
The skirt consists of 6 panels, the front middle panel was painted using matte fabric paint and stencils which I drew and cut out using a craft knife. The details around the edge were painted using silky fabric paint HOWEVER i would recommend also using matte paint to do them as the silky paint was not easy to use and not as thick.
The Pattern was entirely drafted by myself and my mum. The bodice was paneled to fit better, and i hand sewed the sleeves, the lace and the corset hooks. The lace on the skirt was also hand sewn into the hem by myself.
THE WIG:
Orginally I said that I would be constructing a huge plait out of 2 wigs from Geisha Wigs, (Link below), and will be using a foam mat and lotssss of fake flowers! However, due to time restraints, I decided to make a smaller wig for the con. I used one of the wigs, sewed extra wefts into the fringe, plaited it down and then had half of the wig loose hanging over my shoulder. I then removed another long weft, wrapped it round the hairband at the end of the plait and glued it into place.
I then glued a tonne of flowers into the wig and I was very pleased with the results i got of just one day of work!
In the future I hope to make the full large plait, but for now, the ickle intricate one is fine! :)
