My brother graciously agreed to be Torn to go with my Jak. I was pretty surprised to see how few Torn cosplays there are out there, so when he agreed to do this, I was all too happy to make it for him!
The Wig: I used an Inigo from Arda wigs for the base and two or three packages of wefts. I struggled for a while on how to get those big coils and finally decided to do something similar to what I did with my Punzie wig. I cut out pieces of batting, rolled them, added a few wefts, and sewed them to the wig. Using the existing hair on the wig and the wefts, I continually sprayed, dried, and glued the hair in place on the coils. Once I was happy with the look, I added the cording around the coils. After everything was styled I added a small hairline across the top.
The Armor: I patterned out all the designs in paper first and then traced my shapes onto the craft foam. Once all the pieces were cut out I covered them in Worbla and shaped them to the dress form. The most difficult piece was the gas mask. It has such a weird shape and a lot of small pieces, but I'm really happy with how it came out and it even fits like a real gas mask! Getting the hoses to stay in place was a bit of a pain and I ended up building an elbow out of worbla and forcing them into the mask and back attachments.
The Shirt and Pants: Both are made out of a brown spandex and a grey knit. Finding the right color for both was a real pain, but I was lucky enough to find these two and I think they look great together. I began by patterning the costume out, which wasn't too difficult but then realized that before I could put it together I needed to paint the stripes on all of the brown fabric. I spent all night cutting and laying down painters tape for all of the stripes but the weather decided it wanted to rain for a week so I had to wait for a decent sunny day to airbrush him. I got my chance over the weekend and mixed up a darker brown and airbrushed everything that wasn't covered in tape. Once the paint was dry I was able to sew the two fabrics together and done!
The Scarves: These have probably been the easiest things to do so far. Lots of rectangles.
The Boots: I decided to make the leggings work like gaiters instead of leggings, which made designing them much easier. They're made out of a black grey vinyl and slip right over the base shoe, which I covered in more of the same black grey vinyl. I painted the base shoes to match the hoses on the gas mask.
The Belts: All of the belts are made out of vinyl and are a pain in the butt. I really don't like making belts, but thankfully once I finish the two around the waist that's all I have left.
The Knife and Scabbard: Built out of funfoam, worbla, a dowel, and popsicle sticks. I used the same leather cording from his hair to wrap the knife handle and the scabbard.
