Edgar:
Ever since I decided to start my Dissidia Terra costume, I knew I was going to have to add some other FF6 characters to join me. I wanted to keep a similar design to the game sprite and Amano drawings, but I also wanted to embellish the costume. My goal was to design a Dissidia version of Edgar if you will and this is what I came up with.
The most difficult part of this costume was the armor. I came up with a floral design based off of a bluebell that grows in the desert (fitting right??) and used that as a motif for all of the armor pieces. The armor is funfoam with a layer of wonderflex over it. The wonderflex was covered in gesso, sanded smooth, and then I glued cut pieces of funfoam over the wonderflex for the raised designs. I am pretty sure I cut out well over two hundred mini pieces of foam for the boarder around the base of the chest armor. The red gems are all made with a resin mold cast. The gem in the center of the torso armor was a custom mold I made. The cape is a navy blue suede, lined in a darker blue material, and a heavy upholstery trim was sew all the way around the bottom. I appliqued the gold and blue triangles all the way down the sides of the cape, which was one of my favorite parts of the Amano design.
The tunic is a peach skin with the designs and triangles appliqued on. The pants are a black twill. The waist wraps were a fun project. Since I already knew I was working on a Dissidia Terra and a Sabin, I thought it might be fun to have something to tie all three of us together. I found these lovely Japanese cotton prints online and I knew I had found what I was looking for. I even found matching designs (but different colors) for Sabin and Edgar. Naturally, Edgar has the blue and green, while Sabin has the blue and orange.
The wig is an Arda Magnum with a long weft added for the ponytail. The bows were made out of the same satin as the triangles on the tunic (Edgar must match of course!) Overall, I am very pleased with this costume. The armor was certainly a big challenge, but I think it came out looking awesome in the end. :)
Update:
Edgar's armor so needs to be remade...
Sabin:
As with Edgar, I redesigned the Sabin costume to match with my Dissidia Terra. Sabin was a little harder than Edgar because you don't want to over embellish him. I decided to stick with less regal elements and more natural elements.
The armor was mostly done by EVZombie, but I did help paint it!! We really liked the idea of keeping the armor to a minimum and just do a gauntlet hand and leave it at that. The gloves are a SUPER soft suede and it's also what the boots are made of as well.
The beads were a lot of fun, I wanted to look for natural beads to stick with the theme, so I found some really cool wood beads and some teeth beads, which worked really well. We gave Sabine a necklace, a bracelet, and around his ponytail. The huge claws on the necklace were made of paperclay.
The shirt is a peach skin with the gold designs to match Edgar appliqued on. The pants are a twill fabric. The wraps were a blast to pick out, I love the Japanese fabric theme. Since they are twins, I wanted Sabin to match his brother, so I have the same style fabric in orange and blue for Sabin (Edgar has green and blue). Sabin also has a suede green wrap with a lovely natural looking fuax fur trim sewn to it. I loved this fur so much that I even added it around the top of the boots and around the back of the shirt.
The wig is also a Magnum Long from Arda, they are twins now, had to match!!! The length was just perfect to give Sabin a tiny ponytail, so all I really had to do was spike it in the front. Boom, done!
