We made this costume in time for a group photoshoot during Feb 2014, but it has yet to be debuted at any conventions.
The horns are foam covered in worbla. Jason used a hard hat forehead strap to attach the horns. The face is a gargoyle prosthetic that we bought and modified to fit the horns. The forehead strap proves difficult to put on with the wig, so I am going to attempt another method and try to anchor the horns directly to the wig, but I have yet to attempt a fix.
The kidney belt and front flap are made from leather. The front panel is oil tan, the front piece of the “kidney belt” is 5 oz veg tan, and the back is pig skin. I decided on side seams rather than a back seam for the kidney belt because, like Tallis, the back is made out of a softer leather, so it isn't extremely painful to wear. It actually worked out really well.
I was going to use four types of leather, but I changed my mind and have decided to make the battle skirt out of the pig skin rather than the heavy suede because I can tool it and add the gold “trim” with paint. I cut up the bottom and added some distressing to make it look battle worn. I have since added some suede panels underneath the pig skin to give more definition to the skirt.
We decided to make the elbow and shoulder pieces out of worbla rather than leather. Jace did all the work with the foam, worbla, and shaping. I finished the painting. Jace added the “stitching” detail to the shoulders by using small strips of worbla. I painted them to try to make them look like leather, as much as I could.
The weapons are made from a light wood. Jace added foam to the blades for the black details.
The waist sash was sewn and dyed because the original red used i the photoshoot was too bright. The gloves I bought on ebay, but I took them in and added the leather bands to the top and bottom. I used the same pig leather I used for the skirt and stitched them to the gloves. Since, the photoshoot our friend Roland helped us airbrush a bodysuit to cut down time on makeup.
We ended up finishing this costume at 1 am before the shoot, but I am glad we did. We still have to make a lot of adjustments to the head and horns to make this more functional to put on at conventions. However, Jace says the rest of the costume is pretty comfortable.
