What to tell you about this costume, I actually hand dyed and hand sharpied the pointe shoes. They took several layers of not knowing what I was doing. The tutu was an interesting thing I purchased a very small but basic practice tutu that had three layers to it. I then purchased a LOT of tulle and special tutu boning from this amazing tutu store online. I researched how to add layers to a tutu and added around 10 layers I think to the tutu.
After adding all the tulle I continued in making the tutu ballet appropriate making the plate out of the same velvet I used in the top. I added the boning to the tutu, wrapping it with a black ribbon so no one would be able to tell it was there. I stitched the plate together after ironing the tulle layers flat. I stopped there for the plate for a few conventions then decided to continue to add to the costume by adding a decorative lace on-top of the velvet, I am currently working on two detailed hand beading pieces to complete the plate which are two large raven feathers.
With the bodice it was a trial and error, it needed to be stable enough not to be inappropriate but at the same time be accurate to the show. Using leather as the center of the bodice helped stabilize and form the bodice to what it needed to be. Using a nude color fabric over the leather helped create the illusion of the bodice being held up in the unique shape that the anime called for. I used clear bra straps to attach the bodice to myself since I am unfortunately allergic to adhesives. The rhinestones were placed in the center of the nude fabric to enhance the costume and to give the costume a more ballet feel.
The wig was cut and styled by iamgeekachu but I have added a wired pipe-cleaner to the 'antenna' part of the hair to keep its shape through the dancing.
At the time of these pictures I was in the process of learning pointe with my ballet teacher. I do not recommend using pointe if you are not trained it in. You can seriously be injured! <3
