I’ve loved Sailor Moon ever since I was a toddler, and (besides my mom) Sailor Moon/Usagi Tsukino has always been my hero ever since I can remember. She’s optimistic, kind, and proves that even if you’re not the best at everything you can still save the universe. Not long after the first arc of Sailor Moon Crystal finished airing, I finally decided to cosplay this champion of justice! Between the 90’s anime and manga incarnation, I personally prefer the manga uniform thanks to its sparkly details, so after seeing the manga design finally animated in Crystal, I made my choice. I got a little emotional the first time I put this costume on in it’s entirely, since Sailor Moon holds such a special place in my heart. Making this costume and learning how to use a sewing machine helped open the door to cosplay for me, to which I am very thankful! Receiving Best in Show was such an incredible honor and a magical moment for me. I also find it very touching when parents, who were fans of Sailor Moon as kids, will ask me to take a picture with their children and tell me that they’ve just started showing the series to them. It’s so sweet how they are passing the moonie torch! |
