Originally made in 2011 (I think).
This costume was a pain in the butt. Thankfully it wasn't done in too much of a rush. I had never attempted something so elaborate. I wanted something a little grander than my previous costume, so I was very ambitious and decided to tackle a ballgown. Madam Red was my favorite character in the anime. I liked her as a villain and as a martyr. The idea of some victorian lady being a serial killer was just too appealing to me.
The wig was a special design specifically for this character by a wig maker out of Japan. I purchased it on ebay for around $60 including shipping. It turned out perfect.
All accessories from the hat to the choker and fan are 100% handmade. The hat is covered in black felt and was stiffened to the 'musketeer' look with black interfacing. It took a lot of time and was my first attempt at making a hat. I think it turned out rather well.
The dress itself was made in 4 pieces. The petticoat, the red over skirt and the bodice. The bodice has an under structure of black denim beneath red costume satin, and was difficult to fit, but it worked well. This was all done by my friend Olivia, and then all the lame work and hand stitching was done by me.
Unfortunately, due to weightloss and the complexity of this costume I was forced to retire it. It has since been recycled and contributed to many of my recent costumes, including my Lilith and Weiss.
Basically what happened is because the bodice was made with the costume satin overlay on the black denim, it made it near impossible to take it in unless you took apart the entire thing and redid it. So I chose to bite the bullet and retire this costume in 2012
