I’m going to write here the making process of Disney’s merry-go mermaid’s blue sightseeing dress, as promised. Poorly I couldn’t take many pictures this time. The main causes were: I was in a hurry and completely forgot about it. ^////^; I made this dress within a week, spending 2-3 hours daily before and after work.
Ingredients:
- light blue mixed thread cotton,
- skyblue linen,
- skyblue zipper,
- interfacing,
- black coat fabric,
- black busks,
- black string,
- hairclip base,
- a lot of pins,
- newspapers,
- pencil and marking chalk,
- measuring tape.
The process:
Acting as a masochist I started with the corset. I had a heart-shaped corset sewing pattern which one I had to alter a bit.
Since there are no matching sewing patterns for her blouse I had to alter one out of 3. I cut the back piece in half, because at the beginning I wanted to sew the skirt and blouse together and closing them with a zipper. Later I discarded this plan and sewed the back together. Like this my blouse has become more form-fitting.
I made the bow the same colour as the blouse, because I couldn’t find a bluer hue fabric before. I cut double of the bow’s main piece, also the tails. I sewed them together with the interfacing, and pulled them tight on the middle with a thread. I made a thin ribbon of the fabric and sewed it into the middle to give it a real bow appearance. I still have to buy the hairclip base in Veszprém, but that’s only the smallest thing.
Poorly I didn’t take pictures of the making process of the skirt, because I got into the ‘aww, I want it to be finished already’ mood. I made a circle skirt – well, technically half-circle skirt, then did the closing with a 20 cm long zipper.
My contact lenses and wig arrived a lot sooner. I love both of them. I even wear my lenses on daily basis.
As you can see my cat who shares the same name with her (although my Ariel is a boy and wasn’t named after the mermaid). Tada, the finished outfit:
