Original Tumblr post with photos here

First we bought some water guns that we thought looked the most like Storm Flower.  Then we traced out the design for the “fang” of the gun.  After you have your template for the fang, we used it to cut out 6 pieces of foam poster board in that shape.  3 pieces seemed to stack up and line up nicely with the water gun.

We don’t have a picture of this step, but we then enclosed everything in poster board to give it a cleaner look so that it looks like one piece instead of 3.  Resinwas then used to harden up the material and get it ready for paint.  Hot glued the fang pieces to the water gun and then it was painted solid green.

Next, we created a gun magazine to add to the bottom of the holster of the gun to extend the handle (and match the original design).  The magazine was created using the same method as the fang.  Make a template and then cut out the shape using poster foam board.  Cover the pieces and edges with poster board, resin, then paint.

According to our interpretation of Monty Oum’s photos, the fangs have an edge to them and they’re colored a little differently so we decided to paint that in to match. We used painters tape to tape off the area we wanted to paint and then painted the strip it a lighter color to accent the fang.  After this is done, we taped off other sections of the gun that needed to be painted black and proceeded to paint it.

Next we used worbla to lay down the tiny details on the handles.  You can also use craft foam or clay as alternatives to worbla. Use what you can so that you can create the lifted flower/vine design.  You could probably even paint the design straight on, but we’re not that skilled in painting fine details so we went with another option.  Once we finished the designs we hand painted it to match the handle.  The other little details were also hand painted on.

Everything was done twice and then we had a complete set of Storm Flower.
