What you will need to make this sword:
- Foamboards
- Wooden dowel
- EVA foam (or craft foam)
- Pipe insulation foam
- Electrical tape
- Gesso or a sandable primer
- Sanding paper
- Paint

I started by drawing the shape of the blade on the foamboard 4 times and cut them out using an exacto knife.

Next, on 2 of the foamboard blades I cut out the middle large enough to insert and glue the dowel. I used hot glue for this. The more of the dowel you glue in the blade, the less fragile your sword will be.

The 2 foamboards stacked together are the same height as the dowel. I then glue the other two foam blades to each sides to cover the dowel. (I put a lot of glue here!)

I then sculpted the blade using an exacto knife to make the edges of the sword look sharp. Once I was satisfied with how it looked, I gessoed and sanded and gessoed and sanded and ... you get the rest! ;)

This step is important since it will affect the final look of your sword. The more sanding you do, the better it will look so it's up to you how much time you want to spend on this step.

I painted the blade using red glossy outdoors spray paint to get a shiny look.

For the guard, I used thin EVA foam. Once the design for the guard was done and cut, like all foam, you have to seal it. This can be done using different methods such as diluted wood glue or mod podge.

Once the foam was sealed I spray painted each piece and glued it to the blade.

The handle of the sword was done using the wood dowel and covering it with pipe insulation foam. I then taped it using electrical tape.
