For my Usagi wig I really wanted to make sure my wig had the hair parted down the center back for the pigtails. The main problem was that my base wig was not the type of wig that has a skin top/part down the back and the pigtails are high up on the head so doing the crisscross method would not work here.

I’m aware that Arda Wigs does carry a wig called Chibi(?) which has a skin top/part down the back specifically for pigtails but I did not like the colors available and I just personally prefer Epic Cosplay wigs.

Not Photographed – I started off this wig by basically taking off all of the wefts in the back and flipping them upside-down so they would be more inclined to be pulled upwards later for the style I was going for. Make sure to double check where the center back elastic is at this time and adjust its placement if needed before re-wefting. Once the center back was in the correct place, I hand stitched each weft into place. (I stitch instead of gluing in case I royally mess up and have to start over. It’s easier to seam rip than to deal with dried adhesive.)

Step 1. After re-wefting the wig and flipping them upwards, carefully cut down the center of the center elastic.  (When I was sewing back in the wefts I made sure to leave a gap for this cut so they wouldn’t fall apart.)

Step 2. Take a weft that is the total length from the crown of you head down or whatever length of the part you need it to be. This is because once sewn to the elastic it wont stretch anymore so you need it to be at the total stretched length needed. Slip it under the cut edge of the wig.

Step 3. (Right now it’s pinned in this photo) Stitch the weft that is slipped under the cut half to the wig.

Step 4. After being sewn in place you can then pull the fibers from the weft over the cut edge to hide it. (Kind of like hemming when sewing!)

Don’t be afraid to use heat to relax the fibers so they will lay nicely. This can be done with a hair blow dryer. (Because this is a heat resistant wig, using a blow dryer is no threat to the fibers.)

Not Photographed – Once done you will need to rejoin the two halves of the wig. Fold the wig in half, with your visible part of the wig facing each other. (Like the right side of fabric when sewing, wrong side facing out) Place a nude colored fabric to act as the skin over the cut edges like you would cover the edge of fabric with bias tape. This nude fabric should sandwich your soon-to-be center part and just stitch in place. When you unfold your wig you’ll now have a center back part and can continue styling!
